SIGNATURE TALK
Couples Matter Too:
Supporting the Relationship Through Pregnancy, Postpartum, Loss, and the Perinatal Period
Most conversations about the perinatal period focus on the person who was pregnant, rarely on the relationship holding them up. Deliesha's signature talk, closes that gap, covering how pregnancy, postpartum, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, pregnancy loss, and birth trauma reshape a couple's connection, and what providers and partners can do about it.

ADDITIONAL SPEAKING TOPICS:
Topics Built From Clinical Training and Lived Experience
Each topic can be shaped into a keynote, breakout session, or training depending on your event.
Pregnancy Loss & Reproductive Grief
Loss is often handled as a single medical event with a follow-up appointment, when the grief that follows doesn't move on that timeline, and rarely moves through just one person. This topic is built for birth workers, fertility clinics, and community organizations supporting people through miscarriage, stillbirth, TFMR, or pregnancy after loss. Attendees leave with a working framework for supporting grief that has no set endpoint, and the language to do it without defaulting to reassurance that shuts the conversation down.
Black Maternal Mental Health
Black women are navigating documented disparities in maternal care, medical mistrust earned over generations, and perinatal mood symptoms that get underdiagnosed or dismissed, often while also carrying cultural expectations to hold it together. This topic is built for healthcare systems, provider trainings, and conferences focused on maternal health equity. Attendees leave with concrete, specific practices for culturally responsive care, not a generic sensitivity overview.
Attachment Under Stress
Most communication-skills trainings miss what's actually driving conflict: the nervous system patterns underneath pursuit, withdrawal, and shutdown. This topic is built for clinicians and relationship-focused professionals working with couples under any kind of stress, perinatal or otherwise. Attendees leave able to recognize the pursue-withdraw cycle in session and intervene at the level that's actually running it, instead of coaching communication tips that don't hold under pressure.

Deliesha Durden, LCMHC, PMH-C, is a therapist, speaker, and founder of On The Horizon Counseling, PLLC in Raleigh, North Carolina. She specializes in couples therapy, perinatal mental health, infertility, pregnancy loss, reproductive grief, and the relationship changes that often accompany pregnancy, postpartum, and parenthood. Her clinical approach integrates attachment-based work, emotionally focused therapy, somatic awareness, and culturally responsive care, the same foundation behind her Couples & Relationship Therapy work.
As a Black woman, wife, mother, and someone with lived experience of reproductive loss, Deliesha brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to conversations that are often difficult to name. Her speaking style is warm, direct, educational, and deeply human. She's especially passionate about helping clinicians, birth workers, couples, and communities understand that perinatal mental health doesn't happen in isolation: it affects relationships, identity, intimacy, family systems, and the way people experience safety and connection.
